Skin Care For Beginners
by Sheila Milroy
When it comes to skin care, routines can vary from extremely minimal to super complicated. There are benefits and drawbacks to each, but you should be familiar with all the treatment and product options before digging in.
It can get pretty confusing when we start talking serums, acne treatments, and oils, so why not start with the complete basics. Whether you’ve never quite nailed down an effective regimen or are just looking for a few pointers, it never hurts to go back to basics when searching for the ideal routine.
Let’s break it down into a few simple steps:
Skin Type. If you don’t already know your skin type, now is a good time to find out. Skin Deep can help you identify your skin type and the best products to address your concerns. While your skin will fluctuate with outside factors like climate, products are generally geared toward working with dry, oily, combination (both dry and oily in different areas of your face), and normal skin. There are also products for sensitive skin that require special consideration of certain ingredients.
Product Selection. The number of products out there can be overwhelming. Once we determine your skin type, we can guide you through the products available to teach you what will work best. If you have acne or rosacea we can develop a skin care routine that will address these conditions.
Application Order. Once we have all that figured out we can move onto the proper order to apply skincare products to ensure you get the most out of them. Don’t forget that daily skin care can be a simple, effective option, but you still need to know what you’re using on your skin. We will give a simple process to follow so you get the most out of your skin care regimen.
Cleansing. Cleansing your skin is the first part of your daily routine. We will teach you the proper way to cleanse your face. A good cleanser and a good cleansing technique are essential to healthy skin.
Clean skin will absorb products better and combat the damage of daily exposure to dirt and grime.
Sun Protection. Your daily routine can also include eye creams, toners, and moisturizers, but the basic must-have here is SPF. We offer many sunscreen options, including ones that are water resistant or tinted.
