If you don’t already layer your skin care, it’s a good idea to start. Dermatologists say that layering products that are formulated to complement each other can often provide enhanced benefits and results.
One of the most common questions we are asked is, “In which order should I apply my skin care products?” The following is an easy guide to layering products:
Begin by cleansing and prepping the skin with leave on toners. Skin care products will absorb easier and work better when applied to clean dry skin. Toners can be used as a secondary cleanser but their primary job is to make your skin the correct pH balance. Again, your products will perform much better with this extra step.
Add an antioxidant. Vitamin C is an important ingredient that is beneficial to all skin types. It brightens and supports collagen production. The Vitamin C complex is appropriate for all skin types including people with sensitive skin.
Moisturize. Moisturizing is a key step to any layering routine because it helps to provide an occlusive barrier over your light creams and serums which can help drive in key ingredients.
Protect and defend. A sunscreen is the last step in your morning regimen. Physical blocks are an option; chemical free sunscreens provide broad spectrum protection for all skin types including the most sensitive. These should always be applied last, as the block sits on your skin to provide ultimate protection.
Good luck and good skin care!
